Nature Trail Gazebo is Complete

Thanks to the vision of sixth grade social studies teacher, Lea Ousley, Clinton Elementary School now has an outdoor learning education gazebo. The gazebo will seat a class of 28 students and has a table positioned in the center for teacher materials. The gazebo also has electricity that will allow for the usage of different science equipment.

The funding for the gazebo came from the Goody's Good Deeds for Schools Grant. Also, the City of Clinton donated 120 man hours of labor toward planning and construction. Mr. Hank with the City of Clinton Parks and Recreation Department has created a masterpiece that CES will treasure for a lifetime. Other contributions toward the gazebo have come from Willow Ridge Nursery in Oak Ridge and Bob and Karen Arowood. Thanks to David Brogdon at Brogdon Roofing for giving the school a great deal and doing a beautiful job on the metal roofing project.

During the spring, landscaping around the area will continue with the installation of a decorative fountain and small wetland bog. In addition, a variety of science stations will be arranged on the nature trail with various types of weather instruments and bird feeders.

The nature trail project is proof that one's vision and dreams can become a reality!!!!!

I will be posting pictures of the gazebo shortly. Look for a ribbon cutting date coming soon!

Acer One Laptops "Baby Laptops"

In an effort to improve intervention for at-risk reading students, CES has recently purchased six Acer One Laptop computers. Each laptop weighs less than two pounds and is extraordinarily child friendly with wi-fi capabilities. The cost was also small considering that each unit was less than four hundred dollars. These laptops are kept on a charging cart throughout the day and are shared by K-2 teachers for usage with students needing additional phonics and reading practice. The students are thrilled about the new learning tools, and so are the teachers! We look forward to purchasing more in the future. You can view these laptops by visiting the walmart.com web page.

Parents and Families Supporting the School Tutoring Program

In an effort to improve student performance in mathematics, Clinton Elementary School is preparing to begin a mathematics tutoring program for students in grades 3-6. Parents and family members who are interested in tutoring CES students are responsible for having the TBI Background Check completed prior to tutoring. The background check costs approximately fifty dollars. If you are interested in tutoring and are concerned about the price of the background check, please contact the school at 457-0616 for more information.

The tutoring will take place either before school, after school, or during a students' study hall. Parents who are interested in having their child tutored need to contact Mrs. Jordan or their child's homeroom teacher. Parental permission is required before a child can begin the program.

Laptop Kickoff

Due to a joint funding effort by Clinton City Schools Board of Education, the Laptop Initiative Committee, the City of Clinton City Council, Aisin Automotive Casting, and Oak Ridge Associated Universities, all sixth grade students at Clinton Elementary School have access to a wireless laptop computer for usage throughout the school day. This exciting technological endeavor has completely changed the shape of teaching and learning at Clinton Elementary School and has taken student engagement in the learning process to the next level.
